Multidimensional Perspectives of Perceived Old Age and Gender Differences
Kim Mee-Ryoung

Abstract
This study used the 3rd and 3rd additional wave?? of panel data of KReIS(Korean Retirement and Income Study) and examined factors affecting the perceived old age. As an analytic framework, Bronfenbrenner's eco-system theory was used. As categories of ecosystem, the period of grand parenthood as a family life cycle, retirement or pension receiving time as socio-institutional period and 60th birthday as cultural-traditional period were used. The target population of this study ?was? 60+ in the 3rd wave collecting in 2009 and the sample size ?wa?s 4,744(women=2,792, men=1,952). As data analysis multiple regressions were used, according to research results for both gender, age, education, gross family income, job and beginning variables of older adults were significant. However, psychological health was statistically significant for only women, and IADL and perceived physical health were statistically significant for only men. When comparing ¥âs of independent variables, perceived physical health variable is the most effective on the perceived old age and? chronological age is the second most? effective?. The result indicated that eco-system theory can be applied to analyze factors affecting the perceived old age. For future study, both chronological age and perceived old age should be considered for the quality of life of older adults.
